How to use this website...
A short introduction on how to everything you need to know to use this website...
How to create a pattern
If you allready know, what you want or you even have sketches it's very easy. you just go to the categories listed under 'Patterns', choose the type of clothes your looking for e.g. 'Skirts'. There you'll find an overview with some rudimentary technical drawings and you can choose, which style you need, e.g. a ruffel skirt, with or without york and so on... On the suitable page you'll find a formular where you can insert the measurments you want for your piece.
Measurements...
When you have decided for a design, you have to indicate your measurments. This is mainly straigth forward. If you don't have ay clue, what I'm talking about, you can have a look at Simplicitys website. There you find a quite good description of what I meant. All measurments are in centimeter!!!Sorry, so far there's no conversion, but I'll work on it.
Please keep in mind that all patterns are created according to the values you indicate. There ist no additional comfortable or design allowance as others e.g. Burda have. So you get, what you demand... if you what it a little bit wider, just add some cm.
Pattern preview...
Of course, you want to know how your creations looks like. Do have a look at what you created, you find a checkbox 'show me one large page' at the ende of each formular. When you activate this checkbox and then click the 'ok' button, you get your pattern displayed in one large pdf document, allowing you to have a look at the complete pattern. If you want to change something, just adapt the values in your formular and try it again.
Printing your pattern...
If you're happy with your pattern, you just have to print it. If you have a printer possible of slicing the large pdf document to several pages, your fine and you can just use the large pdf document. If your printer doesn't provide this option, you can choose the option ' '. With this checkbox activated, you get the same pattern as before, but sliced into several A4 pages, that can be easily printed. You're of course also free to save the pattern to your computer.
To perserve the correct size of the patterns try to deactivate all printer offsets etc.
Checking the size...
You can find a box on the first page... that is just to check if the units had been printed correct. It should have a lenght of 10 cm and a height of 5 cm. If it's larges or smaler than that, you can assume that you pattern ist also a little bit skewed. You can easily try to adjust the pattern a little bit by hand, just by adding or removing some millimeters.
Putting the pattern together...
If you have printed your pattern on several pages, you have to glue them together. To do this, you the position of the paper is indicated at the upper left corner of every page. There you find the line and the position in the line. You have to arrange them from left to right and bottom-up.
Transfer & Cutting...
Now you can cut them out and transfer them to your fabric. Please keep in mind that there ist NO SEAM ALLOWANCE added! So you have to add ten for your self. I usually use 1.5 cm for normal seams and 2-3 cm for hemlines.
